11th Annual Juried Show
Juror: Shamim M. Momin - Director of Curatorial Affairs, Henry Art Gallery, Seattle WA
Selected from over 1200 submissions, this exhibition presents the work of twenty-four artists working in a range of mediums and practices. While the selection was not guided by a pre-determined thematic, there does emerge common ground and threads of connection across the diverse works. In particular, there is a strong sense of revealing the unseen—whether a people, a system, a history, or a practice. Translated through transformative layers of materiality, abstraction, or revised modes of representation, the works address concerns from ethnic genocide, the threat of current politics, injustices across gender and sexual preference, the fundamental inequity of social structures, and efforts to reimagine the white-washing of history—among other issues. Other threads tie together across works foregrounding a tactile materiality, those embracing abstraction embedded with social issues or the body as a site of contest, and certainly, resonating in many diverse objects, a ghostly sense of absence and loss linked undoubtedly to our current state of isolation and lack of community connection.

HerStory
Juror: Renee Phillips, Manhattan Arts International, New York, NY
Curating exhibitions of art by women has been an important priority of mine. Prior to establishing the Manhattan Arts International website in 2000 I organized many women’s art exhibitions in galleries and public spaces in NYC, NY. The purpose of the annual “HerStory” online exhibition is to provide international exposure for outstanding yet under-recognized women artists. We will continue presenting “HerStory” exhibitions until there is a fair and equal balance of women artists represented by art museums, galleries, art book publishers, major private and public collections, auction houses, and the media.
“HerStory” 2020-2021 presents art by 90 extraordinary women artists who express their unique creative visions with skill and originality. They have mastered their chosen styles and mediums. Their art has an immediate and lasting impact and transforms us in a visceral and/or thought-provoking manner. The final selections were based on the art and statements they submitted and visits to their websites to view their overall body of work and resumes. Because we received entries by very talented artists the selection process was extremely challenging.

7th Annual ICON Juried Show
What does the word ICON mean to you? That’s what we’ve been asking since 2012, and you’ve been answering – enthusiastically! This year, we are pleased to share the 7th annual show, on display from September 3 through September 26, 2020, in the gallery and online here.
Visual artists responded to our prompt, just the word ICON, and interpreted it as they wished. Our juror, Stephanie Hargrave, has selected almost 50 pieces from close to 150 submissions from painters, photographers, sculptors, collagists, and more.

Seattle Deconstructed Art Fair
In an innovative show of collective effort, a group of 60 Seattle art galleries, nonprofits and art institutions have come together to reconstruct the traditional art fair with a community-led effort. We did this not just for the support of our small businesses, but also for the artists in our community who have worked hard create artwork for the official Seattle Art Fair that was cancelled due to the pandemic. Its closure left a palpable void in the visual arts world, whose support is crucial to the vibrant cultural capital of our region.
